He is a contributor to TIME, where he previously was a Washington correspondent, Detroit Bureau Chief, and Chicago-based reporter. He has written for Fortune, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe, The Times-Picayune, and The Nation, and produced reports for Chicago Public Radio and the New Orleans CBS affiliate, WWL-TV. In addition, he has provided analysis on NPR, Fox, MSNBC, CNBC and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. He lives in Washington.
